| | | | | | Individual Behavioural Programmes | | | | | | | | | This service is available for men and women who have an acquired brain injury and difficult to manage behaviour in Kemsley East, Kemsley West and Kemsley South West. Kemsley West offers rehabilitation for male patients only. These three locked wards allow patients, who may otherwise be excluded from rehabilitation settings, to be with their most appropriate peer group. Two of these wards are specifically for patients who require a high level of assistance with many aspects of daily life.
Presenting problems include:
 physical aggression
 inappropriate social behaviour
 risk of self-harm
 emotional problems
 cognitive problems
 other related physical problems
Treatment Treatment is based on work with patients to set realistic expectations of their long term potential. Our assessment continues through individual rehabilitation programmes which are developed by a multi-disciplinary team. Click here for details of the multi-disciplinary team. Skills are developed through practice, guidance and feedback, aimed at recognising achievements and successes.
Our broad treatment aims include:
 helping patients improve behavioural control
 helping patients improve functional skills
Specific targets may include:
 increasing attention and concentration
 promoting communication skills
heightening self-awareness, personal care and appearance
 improving eating skills
encouraging physical well-being including control of movement
When adequate behavioural control has been achieved programmes affording exposure to the community are encouraged and we are fortunate that St Andrew's Healthcare has close proximity to the town centre offering easy access to shops, restaurants and a wide range of social facilities. | | | | |
