33 minute train journey.

The Basildon District is one of the most exciting and vibrant areas of the South East.
Recently designated as the business hub for
the Northern Thames Gateway, Basildon District is home to thriving businesses such as Ford's £4bn Dunton Research Centre, the UK's largest motor vehicle research centre with 5000 highly skilled engineers and designers. Other world-class organisations who have chosen Basildon District include New Holland, First Data Resources Europe and York.

With more parks and open spaces than any other district in Essex, Basildon contains several country parks and nature reserves including the 250 acre Gloucester Park which offers fishing, bowls, netball, American football and novelty golf.

basildon2Home to 163,000 people, Basildon has numerous leisure attractions including the Eastgate indoor shopping centre, traditional high streets, a multiscreen cinema and the Festival Leisure Park which provides 35 acres of music, entertainment, pubs, restaurants, sports facilities and a 10 screen cinema. In the heart of the town is the 85ft St. Martin's 'Bell Tower' the World's first to be made of glass and steel.


Basildon provides the venue for many events ranging from Athletics Championships to regional competitions, fairs and nature workshops. Special events include the Basildon Festival which involves music, displays and activities. Sports facilities include the 18 hole Basildon Golf Course, Basildon and Pitsea Cricket Club, numerous sports centres, gyms and swimming pools. The nearby River Crouch is a popular sailing centre.

Just 10 miles to the east of Basildon is Southend-On-Sea with its world famous pier and multitude of visitor attractions, thrilling adventure rides and spectacular events. Ten miles to the west is Lakeside, one of the largest shopping areas in Europe.
